Solar Simplicity
With more than 300 days of sun in our area of Texas, using solar technology to power homes makes financial sense. We call it Solar Simplicity, which means we make it easy, from start to finish, to purchase a solar photovoltaic system (solar panels) to produce your own electricity.
The typical system isn’t large enough to power an entire home, but it certainly will help reduce monthly electric bills by supplementing a home’s energy needs. On average, our customers save $40-$60 a month with a 4 kW system, which can produce approximately 500 kWh (kilowatt-hours) per month. That’s about a third of the 1,500 kWh consumed monthly by the typical home.
Additional Incentives
A federal tax credit of 30 percent is available for existing homes, new construction on principal residences and second homes. Read more at www.energystar.gov. Plus, GVEC members can take advantage of on-bill financing (with approved credit) and combine payments with their electric bill.
Solar energy must be used as it is produced. GVEC members can sell back excess energy to GVEC at the current wholesale power rate price. An Interconnection Agreement is required, which sets the terms and conditions for properly and safely connecting a solar PV system to the electric grid.
